Eating disorders are scary. Fortunately, you can understand them and there are ways you can help.

Hi – I’m Ellie.

I’ve had problems with disordered eating since I was about 12 years old ( I was born in 1996).

Over the years, relatives, friends and partners have struggled to understand my issues and struggled to help.

One of the things I hear time and time again is “I don’t know how to help” or “I don’t know what to say.”

This site is intended as a guide for those who feel – understandably – at a loss as to how to understand and talk about eating disorders. I hope it will allow you to make steps towards providing the help you so want to give to your loved one(s).

I’ve included my own story, as well as things I think are very useful to know about eating disorders in general, such as reasons why they might occur, and reasons why they are becoming more common; useful and not-so-useful approaches to providing support; and some strategies that have worked for me.

I am not professionally trained, and I know more about some areas than others (my particular brand of eating disorder was bulimia).

I just feel that there is a distinct lack of real, actionable “how to help” guides out there, so I’m attempting to provide one.

If any of the information provided is incorrect or misleading, please don’t hesitate to contact me, and I will change it.

Any questions are welcome. I can’t promise I’ll know the answer, but I’ll do my best to help or point you in the right direction.
